NCC Past President Jack Hamilton Dead at 71 12/21/2001
Jack S. Hamilton, a Lake Providence, LA, cotton producer and ginner and former president and treasurer of the Memphis-based National National Cotton Council of America, died Sunday, December 16 in Jackson, Miss., following a short illness.

Cottonseed Assistance Payment Estimated at $15.53 Per Ton 02/16/2001
With ginning season nearing completion, USDA will soon begin implementing ‘00-01 cottonseed assistance program. Given $100 million allocation for program, payment would be approximately $5.89 per bale of lint ($15.53 per ton of cottonseed) based on latest USDA estimates of cotton and cottonseed production.

Exports are Key to Economic Health of 2001 U.S. Cotton Crop Year 01/29/2001
NCC economists said the big variable for the 2001 U.S. cotton crop year is exports, specifically whether or not the Chinese will import raw cotton and how much. In their annual outlook for delegates attending the NCC’s annual meeting, the economists projected the 2001 U.S. crop would be 18.5 million bales, U.S. mills would use 9.8 million bales and exports possibly reaching 8.5 million bales.

Despite flat Upland cotton prices, waning farm program benefits and rising fertilizer/energy costs, U.S. cotton producers intend to plant 15.9 million acres of cotton this spring, up 2.3 percent from 2000, according to the National Cotton Council’s 18th Annual Early Season Planting Intentions Survey.
