In its November crop report, USDA estimated a 2024-25 U.S. crop of 14.19 million bales. Upland production was estimated at 13.71 million bales and ELS production at 481,000 bales.
Harvested area was an estimated 8.64 million acres, implying a non-harvested area of roughly 2.54 million acres. The resulting abandonment rate is roughly 22.73%. The national average yield per harvested acre was estimated to be roughly 789 pounds, 74 pounds lower than the 5-year average.
