MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Robert W. (Bobby) Greene, a former president and chairman of the board of the National Cotton Council (NCC), received the Oscar Johnston Lifetime Achievement Award for 2025. He was honored at the Council’s 2026 annual meeting held February 9-12 in San Antonio, Texas.

The award, established in 1997, is named for Oscar Johnston, whose vision, genius and tireless efforts were foremost in the shaping and organization of the NCC. The award is presented to an individual who served the cotton industry, through the NCC, over a significant period of his or her active business career. The award also recognizes those who exert a positive influence on the industry and who demonstrate character and integrity as well as perseverance and maturation during that service.

Greene’s extensive service to the NCC spans more than four decades and includes leadership roles at the officer, board, and committee levels. He represented the ginning segment as an elected NCC delegate from Alabama, serving from 2004-2006 and again from 2007-2009. Greene served as an NCC officer for multiple years, including vice president (1999-2000), vice chairman (2002), and chairman (2003), and later continued his service as an advisor to the Board of Directors across numerous years through 2026.

Greene also provided significant committee leadership, including chairing the Program Packaging & Distribution Committee (1995-2001), the Standing Membership & Credentials Committee (1999-2001 and 2000-2001), and the Cotton Flow Committee (2006-2015). His service further included chairing and participating in a wide range of NCC standing, program, and special committees and task forces addressing issues such as performance and standards, operations, budgeting, international trade policy, farm policy, and industry governance. He also participated in the NCC’s Cotton Leadership Program (1984).

Greene’s decades of dedicated service, steady leadership and commitment to strengthening the cotton industry exemplify the values of the Oscar Johnston Lifetime Achievement Award.
