In its August crop report, USDA estimated a 2018-19 U.S. crop of 19.24 million bales.
Upland production was estimated at 18.46 million bales and extra-long staple production at 779,000 bales.
Harvested area was an estimated 10.14 million acres, implying a non-harvested area of roughly 3.38 million acres. The resulting abandonment rate is about 24.99%.
