In its August crop report, USDA estimated a 2019-20 U.S. crop of 22.52 million bales.
Upland production was estimated at 21.73 million bales and extra-long staple (ELS) production at 790,000 bales. Harvested area was an estimated 12.64 million acres, implying a non-harvested area of abouty 1.27 million acres. The resulting abandonment rate is roughly 9.10%.
