MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway (R-TX) is scheduled to address delegates attending the National Cotton Council's 2016 Annual Meeting in Dallas on February 6.
Chairman Conaway's presentation will begin at approximately 8 a.m. on February 6 at the Omni Dallas Hotel. Following his report, Cotton Council staff will present the organization's annual "Economic Outlook," which includes announcement of the results of the Council's 35th Annual Early Season Planting Intentions Survey.
Serving his sixth term in the U.S. House, Conaway also serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He is a deputy Republican whip, a position he has held since the 112th Congress. Conaway represents 29 counties in Texas' 11th congressional district, including the cities of Midland, Odessa and San Angelo.
The Cotton Council's Annual Meeting is being conducted February 5-7. The convention's events also feature a February 6 luncheon presentation, "2016 Political and Election Outlook" by David Wasserman, house editor for the Cook Political Report, and the General Session, the meeting's final event on the morning of February 7 that will include a Council activities report from outgoing Council Chairman Sledge Taylor, a Mississippi cotton producer and ginner.
As the unifying force of the U.S. cotton industry, the Memphis-based National Cotton Council of America brings together industry representatives from the 17 cotton-producing states to establish policies reflecting the common interests and promoting mutual benefits for its broad membership and ancillary industries. The Council's mission is ensuring the ability of all industry segments to compete effectively and profitably in the raw cotton, oilseed and U.S.-manufactured product markets at home and abroad.
The U.S. cotton industry provides employment for some 200,000 Americans and generates more than $100 billion in annual economic activity.
