WASHINGTON -- With ginning season nearing completion, USDA will soon begin implementing '00-01 cottonseed assistance program. Given $100 million allocation for program, payment would be approximately $5.89 per bale of lint ($15.53 per ton of cottonseed) based on latest USDA estimates of cotton and cottonseed production.

Program should work largely the same as that of the previous year, with application form mailed to each gin, which is then required to verify the number of bales ginned during the season. Final determination of payment will be made once the application deadline has passed. At this time, USDA has not announced start or ending dates for the program.
