Dr. Jody Campiche, Vice President of Economics and Policy Analysis for the National Cotton Council, joins us with an update from the recent USDA March Prospective Plantings Report.

The report released by the Department of Agriculture on March 31, estimates that U.S. producers intend to plant 12.2 million acres of cotton in 2022, up 9 percent or 1 million acres from the previous year. Upland cotton accounts for the majority, with 12.1 million acres expected to be planted. American Pima cotton is also expected to trend higher by an increase of 39 percent over one year ago, to 176,000 acres. The National Cotton Council’s planting intentions survey, released in early February, indicated U.S. producers intend to plant 12 million acres of cotton, up 7.3 percent from last year.
