In its June acreage report, USDA estimated 2021-22 U.S. cotton plantings at 11.72 million acres, down 3.1% from 2020.

In its June acreage report, USDA estimated 2021-22 U.S. cotton plantings at 11.72 million acres, down 3.1% from 2020. Upland planted area is estimated to have decreased 2.6% to 11.58 million acres. ELS, or extra-long staple, cotton producers planted 142,000 acres, down 29.7%. USDA’s June projection for all cotton is down 317,000 acres from their initial 2021 estimate released in March. Dr. Jody Campiche, Vice President of Economics and Policy Analysis for the National Cotton Council, joins us with a further analysis of the report.
