An important deadline looms for cotton producers across the cotton belt. The deadline to apply for the Quality Loss Adjustment Program is next week on Friday, March 5th. During the past month, National Cotton Council staff has worked closely with the Farm Service Agency (FSA) on the proper implementation of Quality Loss Adjustment for cotton considering the distinct and unique ways cotton is marketed. Quality losses are eligible in counties that received a qualifying Presidential Emergency Disaster Declaration or Secretarial Disaster Designation because of one or more of the qualifying disaster events or related conditions. Reece Langley, Vice President of Washington Operations for the National Cotton Council, joins us with more details.

Payments will not be made until after the conclusion of the March 5 signup date in order to verify the available funding is sufficient to cover all eligible payments. If adequate funding is not available, then an additional factor may be applied to the calculated QLA payment. For more information visit www.farmers.gov/quality-loss
