USDA’s March Prospective Plantings Report indicates U.S. cotton producers intend to plant 13.8 million acres of cotton this year, which is 2.3% less than last year. The National Cotton Council’s planting intentions survey, released in early February, indicated U.S. cotton farmers intend to plant 14.2 million acres of upland cotton and 264,000 acres of ELS, or extra-long staple, cotton.
