Verticillium Wilt is one of three cotton diseases that periodically strike. According to Dr Terry Wheeler, Plant Pathologist for the Texas Ag Experiment Station in Lubbock, this disease is driven primarily by weather.

Wheeler says variety selection is the key to minimizing the effects of Verticillium Wilt.

In 2005 Wheeler started an extensive trial to determine what new varieties showed Verticillium resistance.
