In early December, Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns unveiled a comprehensive energy strategy to help farmers and ranchers mitigate the impact of high energy costs and develop long-term solutions. According to Barry Knight, Chief of the Natural Resources Conservation Service, one of USDA’s efforts to mitigate energy costs in the short term is the availability of a newly revised on-line energy calculator.

Knight says they are working on some other tools for farmers and ranchers that should be available in 2006.
