Letter Requests Emergency Loss Adjustment
The NCC joined with the North Carolina Cotton Producers Assoc., the South Carolina Cotton Board and the Southern Cotton Growers on a letter to Risk Management Agency (RMA) Administrator Brandon Willis requesting the RMA implement emergency loss adjustment procedures to help expedite the claim process for growers affected by the recent floods and excessive rains in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Dear Administrator Willis:
Due to the devastating effects of the recent historic rainfall amounts and subsequent floods in areas of the Southeast, our organizations respectfully urge the Risk Management Agency (RMA) to authorize emergency loss adjustment procedures. Streamlining loss determinations would greatly accelerate the adjustment of losses and issuance of indemnity payments to crop insurance policyholders in the affected areas. Farmers in these states have experienced flooding and excessive moisture over large areas. By instituting emergency loss procedures, RMA would minimize unnecessary delays in processing claims that will certainly occur in the aftermath of disasters of this magnitude.
RMA has instituted these procedures after past hurricanes and as recently as the 2011 flood of the Mississippi River and its' tributaries. The streamlining of these procedures would be beneficial to many growers in the affected region.
