The Honorable Sanford Bishop
Chairman
Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development and FDA and Related Agencies
Committee on Appropriations
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Chairman Bishop:

In 2018, Hurricanes Michael and Florence combined to cause extensive damage across the Southeastern United States. The undersigned organizations would like to express our support for H.R. 268, the Supplemental Appropriations Act, and urge adoption of this legislation as soon as possible.

Chairman Bishop, we appreciate your hard work and the work of the Subcommittee in moving this disaster assistance legislation forward.

H.R. 268 supports farmers and rural communities that have been impacted by these natural disasters. This is the first step towards making these rural communities economically viable again.

Federal assistance for these recent disasters is essential to help the Southeast recover. These storms hit farmers during their most vulnerable period in the production process and it is critical that Congress work to assist these producers as soon as possible. Growers are already in discussions with their lenders and suppliers to discuss the 2019 crop year.

Sincerely,
