Since 1914, freight railroads have been exempt from antitrust regulations, allowing them to seek clearance for mergers or rate changes from the Surface Transportation Board.  Robbie Minnich, senior government relations representative for the National Cotton Council, says the House Judiciary Committee approved legislation that would repeal longstanding antitrust exemptions for freight railroads.
