Speaking at the Southern Cotton Ginners Association meeting in Baton Rouge, Dr. Gary Adams, chief economist at the National Cotton Council, said the Council supports the House Agriculture Committee approved farm bill.

Adams says the farm bill debate probably won't pick up any strength until after Labor Day.

Adams also pointed out the large gap between world production numbers and world consumption numbers.

Even though China remains the number one market for US cotton, India is becoming a larger player in the world market.

The US will have to rely more on the export market in the future, which in turn will create a much more volatile demand situation.
