The National Cotton Council joined commodity groups and national farm organizations in a correspondence urging congress to act on emergency disaster assistance legislation that will help producers across the country for losses in 2005 and 2006.  According to Robbie Minnich, Senior Government Relations Representative for the National Cotton Council, USDA’s latest estimate is that almost two and a half million acres of U.S. cotton will be lost due to weather.

Minnich says legislation was reintroduced by Senator Dorgan last week that would be a traditional disaster bill addressing 2005 and 2006 losses offering a 35% payment rate at 50% of the established price as well as some new offerings.
