Jay Yates, Extension Risk Management Specialist for Texas AgriLife Extension Service says last year Congress passed the Supplemental Revenue Assistance Program or SURE, a permanent disaster program designed to provide assistance to farmers.

Yates says a producer must buy Catastrophic or CAT coverage to be eligible for SURE Payments.

Suggested introduction cut 3:
According to Yates, producers should not consider the SURE payment when making crop insurance decisions.
