This week USDA released the final 2008 U.S. cotton crop estimates. According to Dr. Gary Adams, Vice President of Economics and Policy Analysis for the National Cotton Council, production has decreased since the January report.

Adams says there were several factors that caused the decline across the belt.

Decline in acreage, according to Adams, was the biggest factor for lower production numbers.

Adams says the average yield across the cotton belt was down as well.
