Ministers have failed to narrow their differences on the "modalities" or template agreements that are needed to compile detailed cuts in World Trade Organization tariffs and agricultural subsidies.

Ministers have failed to narrow their differences on the "modalities" or template agreements that are needed to compile detailed cuts in World Trade Organization tariffs and agricultural subsidies.  According to Gary Adams, Vice-President of Economics and Policy Analysis for the National Cotton Council, WTO members have asked Director-General Pascal Lamey (pronounced La-me) to try to broker a compromise as soon as possible.

Adams says July thirty-first could be the next key date for the Doha Round of negotiations.

The newly appointed - United States Trade Representative - Ambassador Schwab is now heading up negotiations for the U.S. delegation. According to Adams the Council commends the Congress and the Administration for not allowing deadlines to undermine the sound negotiating position of the United States.
