The National Boll Weevil Eradication porgram ranks close to Eli Whitney's invention of the cotton gin as one of the greatest advancements ever for the U.S. cotton industry. This report is an update on West Tennessee's envolvement in the program.

This week’s Cotton Newsline is 3 cuts.  All cuts are Matt Emerson, Officer in charge in the Somerville, TN work unit – Southeastern Boll Weevil Eradication Program.

The boll weevil eradication program was launched in the late seventies on the Virginia/ North Carolina border.  Matt Emerson, officer in charge in the Somerville work unit, explains the status of the West Tennessee boll weevil program.

According to Emerson, thanks to the boll weevil eradication program most areas in West Tennessee are now boll weevil free.
