Cotton Dust Control: Carding

D.L. McKay

ABSTRACT

The carding machine has a reputation of being the highest dust level producing piece of equipment in a textile plant. The fiber undergoes a vigorous reorientation from tuft to a thin web. This web is gathered into a loose sliver and given a slight amount of twist in the coiler. The points of dust emission which must be considered in local exhaust ventilation are described.
