Hiivol and Hiivol SCF- Cotton Gin Overspray Additives

William E. Winn Jr.

ABSTRACT

Hiivol and Hiivol SCF were evaluated on their effectiveness as commercial overspray additives. The Hiivol showed a 30% energy savings (lower amperage) at the gin stand motor over PC-3+ and also reduced Foreign Matter Particles (FMPs) and Seed Coat Fragments (SCFs) by 40% and 50%, respectively. The Hiivol SCF showed its effectiveness in allowing the normal ginning of otherwise non-ginnable, sticky cotton when compared to PC-3+. The Hiivol SCF (0.5%) was also shown to have commercial application by permitting the carding of 100% sticky cotton at a rate of 60 lb/h. These results are encouraging in view of the fact that the end product means better U.S. cotton for world markets, increased savings, and profits for everyone involved in the cotton industry.
