Effect of Varying Clamping Pressure of Bundle Tenacity Measurements

ABSTRACT

In an effort to determine what effect beveled clamps had on strength measurement on the Spinlab HVI, different pressures were applied on five the clamps. Five HVI calibration cottons of different lengths were measured at eight different pressures. In addition, the effects of brushing on he five cotton samples were examined to determine if the fiber length distribution affected the strength. The recommended spacing for the brush is between .003 and .004 inches, and the distribution for these two settings as well as .008 and .012 inches were measured.
