Results of a Three Year Study of Cotton Color Grade as Related to Quality

O. Hinojosa and D.P. Thibodeaux

ABSTRACT

Samples from bales that were used in making physical forms of the cotton grade standards for the 1987, 1988 and 1989 crop years were processed ont he fifty-gram microspinning system. Sufficient yarn was obtained for preparation of small lots of tubular-knit fabric. The Hunter Lab Model D25-2 Colorimeter was used to monitor color parameters for samples at different stages of processing ranging from raw stock to dyed knit fabric. Statistical analyses were performed to explore interrelationships among fiber and yarn physical properties, raw stock, color grades and fabric dyeability.
