Additional Observations on Cotton Lint Sugar Levels and Minicard Stickiness

D.L. Shaw and H.H. Perkins, Jr.

ABSTRACT

Sugar level percentage and minicard stickiness tests were run on selected 1989 and 1990 crop preharvest samples. Lint samples from both green bolls and open bolls harvested the same day from the same plants and over four harvest dates showed that the sugar content of lint from green bolls was several times higher than from open bolls. Despite the high sugar level, lint from the green boll samples showed no minicard stickiness in 1990. The 1989 crop showed sugar levels about double the 1990 crop values and with slight to moderate minicard stickiness.
