Aphid and Mite Control in Cotton with Capture 2 EC Insecticide/Miticide

H.P. Mitchell and L.D. Hatfield

ABSTRACT

Capture as evaluated against several insecticides and miticides for aphid and spider mite control during the 1989 growing season. Results of replicated aphid control studies conducted throughout the mid-south and south Texas indicate superior control of aphids in cotton at 3 and 7 days after treatment with Capture at 0.04 to 0.06 lb ai/A (> 92 %) and by MP-Thiodan at 1.25 lb ai/A (> 82 %). Standard organophosphate (dimethoate, Bidrin, Swat, Metasystox-R, Curacron, Orthene) and pyrethroid (Amma, Karate, Scout X-Tra, Baythroid, Asana) insecticides resulted in a range of 40 to 75 and 55 to 65 % aphid control, respectively. Spider mite control with Capture was also demonstrated to be superior to that of Curacron, Karate and Ammo. Thus, effective aphid and spider mite control with Capture 2 EC can be obtained by cotton producers without the need of tank mixes and fit into any cotton pest management program.
