Rainfastness of Selected Pyrethroids

James R. Whitehead, Jay B. Phelps and Fred L. Strachan

ABSTRACT

Studies were initiated during the 1988 growing season to evaluate the rainfastness of selected pyrethroid insecticides. Field trials were established and applications of various insecticides were made 2, 1 and 0.5 hours prior to the application of 0.625 inches of simulated rainfall to the area. Another trial was established in an area which did not receive any simulated rainfall.

Leaves were collected from these trials and neonate Heliothis virescens were bioassayed on leaf disc cut from these leaves. Data collected indicates that tralomethrin and L-cyhalothrin exhibited more rainfastness than cyfluthrin, cypermethrin and esfenvalerate. Tralomethrin and cyfluthrin exhibited faster knockdown than the other materials evaluated.
