Hodgen Holmes’ Cotton Gin – With improvements over Eli Whitney’s cotton gin (patented in 1794), Holmes’ gin allowed for continuous operation, used saws versus wooden spikes that increased durability, and used a slotted bar instead of flat-iron ribs.
