COTTON WEED MANAGEMENT WITH COMMAND® 4 EC HERBICIDE

L.D. Hatfield, S.J. Stringer, and H.R. Mitchell

ABSTRACT

Command 4 EC Herbicide has demonstrated excellent grass and broadleaf weed control in cotton. Preplant incorporated or preemergent applications of Command must be used with in-furrow applications of either organophosphate insecticide disulfoton (DiSystonR) or phorate (ThimetR) to reduce the potential for stand loss or excessive bleaching.

Injury to cotton can occur if the carbamate insecticide aldicarb (TemikR), rather than the organophosphate insecticides, is used in association with Command. Results from research work on applying combinations of either organophosphate and aldicarb to prevent bleaching from command applications indicate that injury is greater with the combination treatment than when the organophosphate is applied alone and increases when the organophosphate rate is reduced. FMC does not recommend use of organophosphate/aldicarb combinations in conjunction with the use of Command on cotton.
