STRATEGIES FOR PROCESSING HONEYDEW CONTAMINATED COTTON

Henry H. Perkins, Jr.

ABSTRACT

Cotton stickiness is increasing worldwide, mainly because of honeydew contamination from whiteflies and aphids. The problems in U.S. cottons from certain western growth areas have increased significantly in the past several years, because of extremely heavy whitefly infestations. Ginning and textile processing of these honeydew contaminated cottons can be difficult or impossible. Methods for controlling stickiness to improve processibility are discussed.
