Late Season Production Management Practices: Insects

Leon Moore

ABSTRACT

Insect control and loss of yield from insect damage are major expenses in cotton production. It is important to keep pest populations below economic levels throughout the season. Early and mid-season production practices often have a direct effect on the extent and severity of late season insect problems. Effective and efficient fertilizer, water, and pest management through the heavy fruiting cycle usually result in few late season insect problems. Weather often plays a critical role in determining the effectiveness of early and mid-season practices and the intensity of late season insect infestations.

Late season cotton production management practices concerning insect control should be aimed at protecting the current crop and reducing the impact of insects during the subsequent year.
