Relationships Between Bacteria and Endotoxin in Cotton Lint and in Card Generated Dust

ABSTRACT

Levels of endotoxin and total and gram negative bacteria in cotton lint and in corresponding card generated airborne dust were determined. The levels in lint were not generally predictive of the levels in airborne dust. The poor relationships appear to be related to dust particle size distribution, relative distributions of endotoxin and microorganisms between lint and trash components of the cotton, and to other factors such as the presence of an additive on the raw cotton.
