Reaction of Selected Cotton Genotypes to Verticillium Wilt in Mississippi in 1985

W.E. Batson and Don Blasingame

ABSTRACT

Differences were evident among 11 genotypes of cotton evaluated at two locations in Mississippi for reaction to Verticillium wilt caused by Verticillium dahliae. Symptoms of wilt were most severe where cotton was irrigated. Under severe disease pressure, higher yields were obtained with DES 237-7, DPL 20, and DES 119. Under lower disease pressure, higher yields were obtained with DES 237-7, DPL 20, and Coker 3131. Of the genotypes tested, Verticillium wilt was most severe on Stoneville 825. Soil from the two sites is being assayed to study the influence of genotype on the population of Verticillium dahliae. This is the first year of a 3 year study.
