The Effects of Microclimate on Cotton Development and Yield

ABSTRACT

Wind influences plant growth, development, and yield (Radcliffe 1983, Grace 1977 and Nobel 1981). Wind increases temperature gradients, increases evaporative demand, and produces a mechanical perturbation on the plant which can affect its growth and development (Barker et al., 1985).

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of wind on the microclimate above the cotton crop canopy under irrigated and dryland conditions and the resulting effects on cotton yield.
