What Quality Factors Do Textile Mills Need Most? A Panel Discussion

Clarence Rogers, Waymon Gibson, William Mayfield, Dwayne Cardin, George Blomquist, and Steve Dobbins

ABSTRACT

Quality is always important to the cotton textile industry, but it is not always reflected in the producer's market. This panel discussion was organized to improve communication, cooperation, and trust among the segments of the cotton textile industry and ultimately improve our competitiveness.

Clarence Rogers sumarized the panel by stating that the textile industry extends from producers through garment manufacturers. We all have competition, both as segments and as a total industry.

The textile industry should determine what consumers, our final customers, want to buy, and pass this demand back through the many steps in the industry to the producer. With the current textile import competition, cooperation and communication throughout our industry are more critical than ever.

Participants on this panel agreed that better communication, cooperation, and trust could make the U.S. textile industry more competitive, and each expressed a personal commitment to that objective.
