Technological advance in textile manufacturing has resulted in primary spinning technologies which place different values on cotton fiber characteristics. Three of those technologies are ring-, open-end rotor and air-jet spinning. The same yarn-count (end-product) can be processed via alternative spinning technologies which will differentially value cotton fiber possessing a known set of characteristics. Lancasterian demand theory is applied to derive price indices for each spinning technology. This approach allows implicit values of fiber characteristics to be estimated for each technology and several yarn-counts (end-products). |
