Response of Cotton Following Soybeans Treated with Imazaquin Herbicide

R.S. Baker

ABSTRACT

'DES 422' cotton was planted April 30, 1985 on Bosket silt loam soil which had been treated April 30, 1984 with imazaquin (Scepter, AC 252214) at rates of 0, 0.03, 0.06, and 0.12 lb/A. The highest rate would he appropriate for weed control in soybeans. Cotton emergence and height the first 4 weeks after planting were not affected by imazaquin application the previous season. Six weeks after planting, the 0.12 lb/A rate of imazaquin significantly reduced cotton height compared to the untreated check or the 0.03 lb/A rate. None of the imazaquin treatments reduced the cotton stand compared to the untreated check, although the stand was significantly lower at 0.03 than at 0.06 lb/A. The number of white blooms counted on July 3 was significantly lower in plots treated with 0.12 lb/A of imazaquin compared to the untreated check. However, none of the imazaquin treatments caused any significant reduction in yield of seed cotton.
