Chemical Control of Carmine Spider Mite on Cotton in East Central Texas

Johnny R. Fitt, Jr., George L. Testes, and Roger M. Anderson

ABSTRACT

Small plot field experiments were conducted during 1984 and 1985 to evaluate insecticides for acaricide efficacy against carmine spider mite, Tetranychus cinnabarinus (Boisduval), on cotton Biphenate (Capture) at 0.08 lb aia and dicofol (Kelthane), both applied twice, were more efficacious than fluvalinate (Mavrik) when mite density was very high. In 1985, one application of abamectin (MK-936), applied to moderate density levels of carmine spider mite, was very efficacious. In 1985, Capture, applied once to plants with light to moderate density levels of mites, supressed mite density levels. Profenofos (Curacron) and monocrotophos (Azodrin) in 1985 were not effective in controlling carmine spider mite.
