A Computer Based Pest Management Aid for San Joaquin Valley Cotton

Richard E. Plant and L.T. Wilson

ABSTRACT

This is a preliminary report on work in progress to develop a microcomputer based software package to assist San Joaquin Valley, California cotton graders in making pest management decisions. The program is a rule-based expert system. It uses nonlinear regression techniques developed by Wilson et al. (1985) to determine sampling times and make treatment decisions for spider mites. Lygus bugs and verticillium wilt management recommendations are based on rules developed in cooperation with experiment station and extension personnel. The program is written in Pascal and is designed to be used at the field level.
