Changes in Cotton Farms

Duane Hacklander

ABSTRACT

The number of farms harvesting cotton continues to decline, reaching 38,226 in 1982. The regional distribution of farms harvesting cotton remained about the same between 1978 and 1982. Half of the farms harvesting cotton in 1982 were operated by part owners, while over 80 percent were individual or family operations. Sales of cotton and cottonseed products constituted 74-79 percent of the total agricultural product sales in each region on Standard Industrial Classification cotton farms.
