Silverleaf Whitefly: Keys to Management

T.F. Watson

ABSTRACT

The silverleaf whitefly occurs on many hosts in the desert Southwest, including many important agricultural and horticultural crops. This insect has the ability to cause severe damage to many of these crops, particularly summer crops such as cotton. Effective chemical controls have been developed. However, other practices such as temporal and spatial separation of cotton from other hosts have proven very helpful in controlling this pest. The key to effective management is to break the host cycle.
