ABSTRACT

The silverleaf whitefly, Bemisia argentifolii Bellows and Perring has caused extensive damage to cultivated crops in Arizona, California, Texas and Florida as well as many other states under nursery and greenhouse conditions. A coordinated, cooperative research and action program involving federal and state agencies, state agricultural experiment stations and commodity's industries has effectively provided open lines of communication and strong research linkages, information exchange and optimum utilization of resources to provide solutions to the problem. The program has also resulted in the active participation and attendance of representatives from ten foreign countries. Six high priority research areas have been identified and annual research progress reviews conducted to exchange information, reassess priorities and identify new areas of research needed.
