Exchanging Cotton Data Through Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Using Cotton Incorporated's QRNet

Greg S. Henderson

ABSTRACT

The U.S. textile industry has adopted ANSI protocols for universal data exchange called electronic data interchange (EDI). The growing acceptance and availability of USDA HVI data by mills is a major force driving the growth of EDI in the cotton industry. Cotton Incorporated developed QRNet to facilitate the transmission of HVI data and related cotton information among mills and merchants. QRNet supports two EDI forms (856 and 863) specific to the cotton industry. This paper will explain the development and adoption of EDI standards for the cotton community, and the significance of QRNet in facilitating a quick response system between mills and merchants using EDI technology.
