Effects of Various Insecticides on Selected Early Season Cotton Insects

S.W. Hopkins

ABSTRACT

A comparison of the effects of Chlordimeform and selected early season insecticides on certain early season insects was the purpose of this study. Bidrin, Cygon 400, Dylox, Lorsban and orthene were used in the study. There were no statistically significant differences between these chemicals in numbers of cotton fleahopper adults, thrids, aphids, Heliothis spp., minute pirate bugs or lady beetles. However, the Orthene and Cygon 400 plots contained significantly fewer cotton fleahopper nymphs than in the other treatment plots. This study indicates that at least part of the yield enhancement from the use of Chlordimeform may be due to early season insect control.
