ABSTRACT

Last year during the ATME Exhibition in Greenville, SC, Zellweger Uster displayed a new system for analyzing raw cotton. The Quickspin System includes the MDTA 3 with Rotorring and the Quickspin single position, open end spinning frame. The open end spinning frame is manufactured by Hollingsworth for Zellweger Uster. The System is designed to allow spinners to quickly analyze the effects of different cottons on yarn quality and appearance. This presentation will show the correlations between the yarn produced by the Quickspin System and yarn produced by conventional ring and rotor spinning systems. The results will show how to use the Quickspin System to predict yarn quality and appearance from different grades of cotton. This study was done in cooperation with Denkendorf Institute in conjunction with a graduate thesis paper.
