Implementation of a Presence/Absence Sampling Method for Spider Mites in Cotton

P.B. Goodell and B. Roberts

ABSTRACT

A new sampling technique developed by researchers at the University of California and based on the presence/absence of spider mites on mainstem cotton leaves represents a major step in rational pest management for cotton in the San Joaquin Valley. During the past 2 years this technique was presented to Pest Control Advisors and producers for their use. Industry's input into the final product was significant. Risk perception by industry coupled with economic considerations are the limiting factors for wider acceptance.
