International Results with Naturalis® L for Control of Sweetpotato Whitefly (Silverleaf Whitefly)

F. Gayle Kennedy

ABSTRACT

There is great concern in the international cotton production areas about worker exposure to insecticides, safety of the food supply, water quality, residues, and insect resistance. This is particularly true in many developing countries. These countries have made it a national priority to give expedited registration status to safer insect control agents. Naturalis(®) L, a formulated product based upon the insect specific fungus Beauveria bassiana, has been granted an expedited registration status by many countries. Naturalis(®) L is in commercial use in Central America and the Middle East and is undergoing final registration procedures in a number of other countries. A brief review of the efficacy of Naturalis(®) L in international areas indicates that Naturalis(®) L is a "preferred use" IPM tool for control of Bemisia tabaci and certain other cotton insects.
