Environmental and Safety Properties of Naturalis-L

Adrian Krygsman

ABSTRACT

Issues such as chemical insecticide residues on food crops and water quality combined with an emphasis for products which are not persistent nor detrimental to the environment, has prompted Congress and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to encourage the development of "safer" insect control agents that will receive top priority for registration. Fermone Corporation has developed an efficacious biological control material, Naturalis(-)L which is a formulated product containing the insect specific fungus Beauveria bassiana. The data produced to date show that Naturalis-L: (1) does not accumulate in the environment; (2) does not adversely affect beneficial insects and predators; (3) does not adversely affect non target organisms; (4) can be safely applied by workers in the field; and (5) residues do not accumulate on crops after application.
